Polycom has today announced their latest release of the SoundPoint IP SIP application. The following are the important changes and notes:
• This release has significant enhancements to the Corporate Directory (LDAP) feature including User Interface changes. See updated Technical Bulletin TB 41137 for details. Administrator’s are encouraged to review the new UI prior to deploying the software to avoid possible user issues due to the changes.
• The distribution method for the releases has been changed starting with this release due to the size of the release files. See section 1.4 of the Release Notes for details.
• This release includes GA level support for SoundStation IP 7000 integration with Polycom HDX video systems. This feature requires that the SoundStation IP 7000 is running BootROM 4.1.2 or newer software. There are some dependencies on the software version running on the HDX system and the deployment scenario.
• SoundPoint IP 550, 560, 650 and 670 products require BootROM 4.1.0 or newer in order to load this software.
• Improved XML checking of Configuration Files has been included in this release. If XML errors are detected a message will be inserted in the log files for the phone. System Administrators are encouraged to examine phone log files for these types of errors and correct the configuration files. This check is intended to assist in reducing the number of field issues resulting from improper configuration files. A simple check of phone configuration files prior to deployment can be done by opening configuration files using an XML editor.

Aastra yesterday announced the addition of the 51i SIP telephone to their 5i Series of powerful open-standard, enterprise grade terminals
The model 51i joins the existing 5i Series family consisting of the 53i, 55i, 57i and the 57i CT models and extends one of the industry’s most complete VoIP telephone offerings.
The 51i addresses the need for a lower priced, entry level single line SIP based telephone for light use in small and medium business applications such as lobbies, common areas, or individual user environments. The 51i retains the style and core features of the 5i Series including: XML browser capabilities, full duplex speakerphone, extensive storage capacity and simplified deployment. While the 51i does not include some of the enhanced features that can be found in other models in the 5i Series such as headset support, backlit display or expansion module capability, it does deliver an excellent mix of value and performance in a carrier/enterprise grade quality IP phone.
The Model 51i is available in both English and Symbol keypad versions signified by the following manufacturer part numbers:

The Sangoma Y-cable (Cable 632) easily adapts Sangoma’s latest A400 series high-density, analog PCI card to patch panels and terminal blocks with Amphenol harnesses. You may prefer this method of connection in order to terminate one or more A400s into a 24 port patch panel via an M/F Amphenol cable. The A400 comes with a 25-pin serial cable ending in open wires for punching down into a block. By purchasing the optional Y Cable, there is no need to punch-down or crimp.
This specially fabricated Y-cable features two DB25 connectors at one end and an Amphenol interface at the other. This design consolidates two A400 boards, each supporting 12 ports, into one 24-port system. Since the A400 can scale to 48 ports, installed side-by-side, you can simply use two Y-cables to terminate the boards into a single 48 port patch panel.
We are proud that the Y-cable was a concept proposed to Sangoma by our product manager, who made the suggestion shortly before the product’s release.
If you would like to learn more about the Y Cable or would like a quote on a Sangoma A400 setup, please contact us.
